Who We Are

Rooted in local practice, connected to a global profession

The Project Management Institute Association Thailand Chapter is one of the most established PMI chapters in the Asia-Pacific region. Our community spans telecommunications, information technology, oil and gas, engineering and construction, banking and finance, manufacturing, healthcare, government, and academia.

What makes the chapter durable is not only its longevity, but its ability to keep translating global standards into practical value for professionals working in Thailand.
Our History

A chapter story built through persistence, reform, and growth

The chapter story includes early entrepreneurial workarounds, a major legal transformation, and the resilience to keep growing through disruption.

1999–2001

The founding years

A group of practitioners in Bangkok secured a PMI letter of intent in July 1999 and spent the next two years meeting the requirements to establish a full chapter, culminating in formal recognition and a charter plaque in 2001.

2012–2014

The nonprofit transformation

A multi-year legal and administrative effort led by chapter leadership transitioned the organization from its earlier structure into a formally registered nonprofit association under Thai law on 5 August 2014.

2014–Present

Growth, resilience, and reach

Membership, programming, and regional visibility all continued to grow, including through the 2019–2022 pandemic period when the chapter rapidly shifted to virtual formats and kept its professional-development calendar alive.

Landmark Achievements

More than a chapter calendar

Over the years, the chapter has helped localize PMI knowledge, celebrate exceptional delivery, and build confidence within the professional community.

PMBOK guide translation

The chapter led the Thai-language translation projects for PMBOK Guide v5 and v6, helping universities, government agencies, and organizations across Thailand access PMI’s foundational body of knowledge more widely.

Annual General Meeting and flagship awards

The AGM has become the chapter’s annual governance and recognition anchor, bringing members together to review progress, elect leaders, celebrate certifications, and present the chapter’s most prestigious awards.

Strong member confidence

A late-2024 chapter satisfaction survey recorded more than 90% overall member satisfaction, reflecting trust in the chapter’s direction, leadership, and the value of its programs.

Why the chapter still matters
Thailand continues to invest in infrastructure, industry, digital transformation, and organizational capability. The chapter exists to help that growth happen with stronger project discipline, better leadership, and broader access to PMI knowledge.

Our longer-term ambition is to see project management more formally recognized at the national level, with PMI standards and certifications seen as practical enablers of better delivery across both public and private sectors.
